History and Ownership

Pronunciation: Inverlounin is pronounced Inver-low (as in cow) – nin “Inver” means mouth of the river in gaelic (inbhir). Although we’ve owned the house for 20 years we have never found a map with the original gaelic for “lounin” – a one-time corruption from the native language. Completed in 1876 as a country seat for a Glasgow Merchant, Inverlounin House has changed hands ten times since. The Jennett family have been visiting Lochgoilhead from their Glasgow home since the early 1960’s and purchased Inverlounin in 1981. This makes us the longest-ever owners of the house and no plans to change. It continues to provide four generations of the family with a wonderful retreat and base for seagoing activities. Since the death of Bryan Jennett, our use has changed slightly hence making the house available to the public for around half of the year. The house retains a family feel although, with a hospitality professional in the family, it has been refurburbished and maintained to a high standard.
